Civil engineering, a broad field of engineering deals with the planning, construction, and maintenance of fixed structures. Today, this field captures the world of power plants, bridges, roads, railways, buildings, structures for water supply, irrigation, the natural environment, sewer, flood control, transportation and traffic.
The four year bachelor degree course in Civil Engineering awards the B. Tech degree in Civil Engineering, the first step towards professional certification. The department of Civil engineering in STIST has qualified and experienced faculty, full fledged laboratories, state of the art equipments and testing machines. The students gain exposure to high quality technical expertise focusing the fundamental engineering principles and  skills.
The curriculum comprises of areas like Building Materials and Construction, Surveying, Fluid Mechanics, Concrete Technology, Structural Engineering, Geo Technical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resource Engineering and Environment Engineering.

The career opportunities for civil engineers covers all the major construction projects under the state or central government, viz the public works departments, the railways and the military. They are mostly wanted in private construction and real estate companies as project engineers. Their employment opportunities in various industries to design their related structures. Civil engineering graduates can also flourish in research and take up the profession of teaching or they can open their own independent consultancy services. They can serve the nation by entering the Indian Engineering Services conducted by Union Public Service Commission and many of them are able to find places in the Civil Services
The teamwork of the Management and Faculty makes the dreams come true for the budding engineers. The students are provided all opportunities to  become well established in their areas of specialization with moral and cognitive guidance from the Faculty and the availability of well endowed laboratory, computer facility and library.
